Hashem - The Ultimate Teacher II

א) וְאֵלֶּה הַמִּשְׁפָּטִים אֲשֶׁר תָּשִׂים לִפְנֵיהֶם

"And these are the ordinances that you shall set before them."

Rashi tells us that Hashem is instructing Moshe on how to teach Torah...

That you shall set before them - The Holy One, blessed is He, said to Moses: Do not think of saying, “I will teach them the chapter or the law [both terms seemingly refer to the Oral Torah] two or three times until they know it well, as it was taught, but I will not trouble myself to enable them to understand the reasons for the matter and its explanation.” Therefore, it is said: “you shall set before them,” like a table, set [with food] and prepared to eat from, [placed] before someone. — [From Mechilta, Eruvin 54b]

"Vihalachta bederachaiv" Hashem wants us to walk in His path...in this case He instructs Moshe on how to teach Torah. Shouldn't we aim to do the same?

Question - How does ameilus fit in? Are we not supposed to work hard?

פרק יט - Chapter 19


וַיָּבֹאוּ מִדְבַּר סִינַי וַיַּחֲנוּ בַּמִּדְבָּר וַיִּחַן שָׁם יִשְׂרָאֵל נֶגֶד הָהָר
כאיש אחד בלב אחד
2. and they encamped in the desert, and Israel encamped there opposite the mountain...
as one man with one heart [Rashi]

וַיַּעֲנוּ כָל הָעָם יַחְדָּו וַיֹּאמְרוּ כֹּל אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר יְקֹוָק נַעֲשֶׂה וַיָּשֶׁב מֹשֶׁה אֶת דִּבְרֵי הָעָם אֶל יְקֹוָק
8. And all the people replied in unison and said, "All that the Lord has spoken we shall do!"

וַיָּבֹא מֹשֶׁה וַיְסַפֵּר לָעָם אֵת כָּל דִּבְרֵי יְקֹוָק וְאֵת כָּל הַמִּשְׁפָּטִים וַיַּעַן כָּל הָעָם קוֹל אֶחָד וַיֹּאמְרוּ כָּל הַדְּבָרִים אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר יְקֹוָק נַעֲשֶׂה
וַיִּקַּח סֵפֶר הַבְּרִית וַיִּקְרָא בְּאָזְנֵי הָעָם וַיֹּאמְרוּ כֹּל אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר יְקֹוָק נַעֲשֶׂה וְנִשְׁמָע

Chapter 24:

3. So Moses came and told the people all the words of the Lord and all the ordinances, and all the people answered in unison and said, "All the words that the Lord has spoken we will do."

7. And he took the Book of the Covenant and read it within the hearing of the people, and they said, "All that the Lord spoke we will do and we will hear."


When we are as one, with one heart, we can answer as one with one voice.

It is interesting that it does not say "Eh'eseh viEshmah" I will do and I will hear.

It could have said that we all answered together that each of us
as individuals will do and will hear.


It takes individuals to make up the many.
And yet we said we will do and we will hear.

It takes a village....

It takes a community to serve Hashem.
We cannot do it alone.
