Lessons for Galus...

I overheard a conversation between 2 elderly Yidden:

Reuvein asked Shimon, "Hey, How have you been?"

Shimon responded, "I can't complain!"

Reuvein responded with surprise, "How can you not complain? We are in Galus?"

Observation:

We do not know all that much about the nature of the Egyptian exile. We know that they were enslaved. The Chumash leaves most of the detail out of it. Midrashim fill in the remaining pieces.

I would have expected that the purpose of a description of the people during the exile would serve as a model for us to follow in future exiles.

How should one think, feel, and act in exile?

How does one survive exile?
